450 Power Supply Review
Seasonic G Series: G 450 Power Supply ReviewSeasonic is continually short on marketing but long on performance, and we are good with that. Today’s 450 watt G Series computer power supply makes more sense in this new world of lower power desktop CPUs and GPUs. Does the G 450 give its users solid power in this lower end of the spectrum range at the right cost
The first thing we are going to look at with the Seasonic G 450 is its packaging, accessories, and documentation. While normally none of these items is a make or break item for a power supply the packaging quite often contains a lot of information about the product we are purchasing. The inclusion of an owner manual that provides actual information about our product is also of great help. Accessories are almost unnecessary with a power supply as the unit is self contained, unless it is modular, but there are cases where a manufacturer can include useful accessories to make installation, routing, and use more efficient.
The packaging of the Seasonic G 450 is the same as what we saw when we reviewed the G 550 and G 750 previously, save for the particulars that refer to this unit power outputs. As such, there is very little new to see here today. Once more, we find an 80 Plus Gold seal on the front of the packaging and a quick check of the 80 Plus website does indeed find the unit certified for 80 Plus Gold. We also find that this unit is advertised as being Haswell Ready. And it should indeed be given the unit design which is certainly different from the ancient designs we have seen from a few other smaller capacity units of late that also advertise the same. When we flip to the rear of the packaging, we find the same advertising that we saw on the G 550 and G 750 including information about the fan controller, some voltage regulation claims, design points, and the fact that the unit is backed by a 5 year warranty. On the sides of the packaging, we find the power label (reproduced below) and the connector count (reprodu uggs on sale ced below).
The power information for the Seasonic G 450 is much as we expect from modern units and very similar to what we have seen from the previous G 550 as well as the G 750. Seasonic claims that this is a single 12v rail unit with a peak 12v capacity of 37A or 99% of the unit total possible capacity if necessary. When we look at the minor rails, we see that these are capped at 100W and each rail is individually capable of 20A. which is identical to what we saw with the G 550 and G 750. Moving on, we find that the G 450 has 2 modified 8 pin PCIe connectors, 5 Molex connectors, and 6 SATA connectors. That said, this is a 450W unit so most people won’t be running high powered graphics cards with this power supply so the 2 modified 8 pin PCIe connectors are probably enough.
Once we open the G 450, we find the power supply in a bag, modular cables, mounting screws, uggs on sale a Seasonic case badge, some zip ties, the power cord, the user manual, and warranty card. The user manual that comes with the G 450 is much the same as that which came with the G 550 and G 750. As we have commented on this each time we have seen it to date, negatively, we’ll just move on and see what this uggs on sale uggs on sale ong>unit looks like when we crack it open.
