1998 FORD EXPLORER 4
Pinpoint Test L: LFC 42/DTC B1942 LH Air Bag Sensor Feed/Return Circuit OpenThe voltage at Pin C232 15, Circuit 619 (PK/W), is set by the air bag diagnostic monitor to be slightly less than battery voltage. Circuit 619 (PK/W) is connected to Ci ugg boots rcuit 625 (Y/LG) inside the LH air bag sensor. Therefore, the voltage at Pin C233 23, Circuit 625 (Y/LG) should be the same as the voltage at Pin C232 15, Circuit 619 (PK/W).
The air bag diagnostic monitor periodically pulls the voltage at Pin C232 15, Circuit 619 (PK/W), low to verify the connection to Pin C233 23, Circuit 625 (Y/LG). If the voltage at Pin C233 23, Circuit 625 (Y/LG), does not pull low as a result of this test, the air bag diagnostic monitor will store in memory the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1942 and flash a lamp fault code (LFC) 42 on the air bag indicator. an open circuit inside the LH air bag sensor across Circuit 619 (PK/W) or Circuit 625 (Y/LG). a short to battery or ignition voltage in any of the Circuits 617 (PK/O), 619 (PK/W), 624 (Y/W), or 625 (Y/LG). PINPOINT TEST L: LFC 42/DTC B1942 LH AIR BAG SENSOR FEED/RETURN CIRCUIT OPENCONDITIONSDETAILS/RESULTS/ACTIONS L1 CHECK FOR A HARD OR INTERMITTENT DTC NGS Tester
On Demand Self Test
Was DTC B1942 retrieved?Yes This is a hard fault. The fault condition is still present. This fault may not be cleared until it is corrected and the DTC is no longer retrieved during the On Demand Self Test. The fault condition is not present at this time. GO to L6 . L2 CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE LH AIR BAG SENSOR CIRCUITDeactivate the system. L3 CHECK FOR SHORTS TO BATTERYMeasure the voltage between Pin C232 15, Circuit 619 (PK/W) and ground; and between Pin C232 16, Circuit 617 (PK/O) and ground. RECONNECT the system. VERIFY the system. GO to L9 . ugg boots VERIFY the system. GO to L9 . RECONNECT the system. VERIFY the system. REACTIVATE the system. RECONNECT the system. VERIFY the system. REACTIVATE the system. GO to L9 . L6 CHECK CIRCUITS 619 (PK/W) AND 625 (Y/LG)NOTE: An inte ugg boots ugg boots strong>rmittent open in these circuits may cause DTC B1942. Visually inspect the wires, crimps, connectors, etc. on Circuits 619 (PK/W) and 625 (Y/LG). L7 CHECK FOR SHORT TO BATTERYNOTE: An intermittent short to battery or ignition on any of these wires may cause DTC B1941 and DTC B1942. Visually inspect Circuits 617 (PK/O), 619 (PK/W), 624 (Y/W), and 625 (Y/LG). L8 CHECK THE LH AIR BAG SENSORVisually inspect the LH air bag sensor. CLEAN the contacts. CHECK for causes of intermittent opens or high resistance in the appropriate circuits. ATTEMPT to recreate the hard faults by driving the vehicle, flexing the wire harnesses, and cycling the ignition key frequently. REPAIR any intermittent concerns that are found. GO to L9 . L9 CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS Retrieve/Clear Continuous DTCs
NOTE: Do not clear any of the DTCs until all DTCs have been resolved. CLEAR all of the DTCs.
AlvinC answered a question about my Ford truck that only someone with an in depth knowledge of his subject would have known what was going on.
Rich DBecause of your expertise, you armed me with enough ammunition to win the battle with the dealer. They are installing a fuel filter and fuel pump at no charge to me. Thanks again to your service.
Jason V. Thanks, and be sure that I’ll be back whenever I need a question answered in a hurry.
Elm City, NC
used your service this weekend with “Trecers” help. thank you ,thank you, thank you. replaced an A/C fan motor. Local Auto Zone had part. $15.00 “tracer” fee and $40.00 for parts, I saved several hundreds of dollers at a shop. i will
